NAN XIANG EXPRESS - 2783 BROADWAY, NEW YORK, NY 10025
So, I finally made it to Nan Xiang Express on the Upper West Side, and I have to say, Iโm hooked! Super delicious! Iโve heard so much about soup dumplings, but this was my first time actually trying them. Nan Xiang even has this adorable little sign that walks you through how to eat them properly. Who knew there was a technique? I guess Iโm a pro now!
Nan Xiang Express has a few locations around NYC, but thereโs something about this UWS spot that feels just right. Maybe itโs the cozy vibe or the fact that itโs only a few blocks from Central Park. Iโm already thinking about grabbing some dumplings for my next picnic. Plus, theyโre open until 2 AM, which is perfect for those late-night cravings.
Hereโs a rundown of what I ordered:
Iced Soy Milk: I started with this, and it was just the right thing to cool down with.
Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumplings: These were my introduction to soup dumplings, and wow, they did not disappoint. The flavors were so rich, and the texture was on point.
Chicken Soup Dumplings: If youโre more into chicken, these are just as good, with a comforting, savory broth.
Cucumber Salad: A refreshing and light side dish that paired well with everything else.
Fried Vegetable Spring Rolls: Crispy, golden, and packed with flavorโthese were gone in seconds.
Scallion Pancakes with Sliced Beef: This was a pleasant surprise! The beef added such a depth of flavor to the already delicious scallion pancakes.
Pan-Fried Pork Buns: Another dim sum favorite, with that perfect contrast of a crispy bottom and soft top.
Wontons in Spicy Peanut Sauce: I could write an entire post just about this sauce. Itโs that goodโrich, nutty, with just the right kick.
Shanghai Fried Udon: As a noodle lover, this was a dream. The udon had the perfect chew, and the flavors were just what I was craving.
Seafood Pan-Fried Crispy Noodles: This dish gives you two texturesโcrispy and tenderโall in one plate, and it was absolutely delicious.
One thing I love about Nan Xiang Express is that itโs not just about the food (though thatโs obviously the main attraction). Thereโs a casual, welcoming vibe that makes it a great spot to just sit back and enjoy. Plus, the portion sizes are generous, so youโre definitely getting your moneyโs worth.
The prices are pretty reasonable too, with most dishes ranging between $6 and $20. Whether youโre sharing with friends or just treating yourself, youโll leave feeling satisfied, and real full!
Nan Xiang Express is definitely worth the trip. Itโs the kind of place where you can just relax, enjoy some really good food, and maybe even learn a thing or two about the art of eating soup dumplings.
